Daliya (broken wheat) is one of the best dishes of Rabi crops which are quite delicious and healthy and can be a sweet or a sabzi dish.

Savory Daliya Recipe


Ingredients:


1 cup daliya (broken wheat)


1 tbsp ghee or oil


1/2 tsp cumin seeds


1 medium onion finely chopped


1 small carrot, chopped


1/2 cup peas


1 medium tomato, chopped


1/4 tsp turmeric powder


ingredients plus 1/2 tsp red chili powder if you so desire


4 cups water


Salt to taste


Blanched chopped spring onions and freshly chopped coriander leaves for garnishing.



Instructions:


1. Wash the daliya with tap water, let it sieve and drain out excess water.



2. Heat ghee/oil in the pressure cooker and if not, in a deep pan.



3. Add cumin seeds; they must pop within a few seconds; then add onions and cook until they are translucent.



4. Put the vegetables (carrot, peas, etc.) and continue cook for 2-3 min.



5. Add the chopped tomatoes and the turmeric, chili powder to the pot. Cook until tomatoes soften.



6. Sauté for two minutes after adding the rinsed daliya.



7. Then put water, put some salt and stir properly.



8. Cook on low flame for about 2 whistles or cook in a pan until soft and tender (15-20 minutes). Stir occasionally if you are using pan.




9. Sprinkle the coriander on the dish and have it hot.
